Privacy policy
Last updated 2 September 2026. This policy covers the Why Not Run website and the shared API used by the native apps.
What we collect
Account data (name, email, password hash, turf color, avatar). Location data while you run or while the map is open (coordinates, timestamps, path). Usage data such as runs, captured cells, alliance membership, and chat messages. Contact form submissions on this website.
Why we use it
To authenticate you, draw territories, compute rankings, show live runners, operate alliances and chat, prevent GPS abuse, and answer support messages. We do not sell personal data.
Location
GPS is required to start a run. On the website, tracking continues only while the browser tab is allowed to use location. The native app can keep tracking with the screen locked if you grant background permission. You can stop a run at any time.
Retention and sharing
Run history and turf stay in the shared Why Not Run database until you ask us to delete the account. Hosting, email, and map tile providers process data only to run the service. Chat messages are visible to the selected channel (everyone or your alliance).
Your choices
You can edit your profile, remove your photo, leave an alliance, or request account deletion through our contact page. Contact
